5 Countries Cambodian Can Work When Studying Abroad

What do you have in mind when studying abroad? There can be many things such as making new friends, experiencing new cultures, travelling across those countries and studying hard against a high standard of quality educations abroad. Regardless, there is yet another thing many Cambodian students think of when studying abroad.

As not many Cambodian students come from rich families, some choose to work part-time when they are studying abroad to compensate for their foods and/or accommodations. Other Cambodians find working part-time abroad as an opportunity to get working experience. Whether you are into the first or second, here are the top five popular countries that Cambodian students can work when studying abroad.

Australia

Australia is a generous country that allows international students including Cambodian students to work part-time and get paid from their works. Regardless, international students cannot work more than 20 hours per week or 40 hours per fortnight. In fact, it is a thoughtful decision by Australia so that we don’t let our works affect negatively our studying.

During our stays in Australia, we can work in many places that offer employments for international and local students. Those jobs are such as translators, cinema employee, supermarket employee, worker at some fast-food chains, tutor, babysitter, clerical assistant, gardener, cleaner, waiter, kitchen hand, bartender, staff at department stores and picking vegetables/fruits. These are all light and not demanding works for us.

These are all great opportunities to earn money to pay your bills and earn working experiences which you can find helpful for later in lives. Furthermore, Australia is one of the most advanced countries in the world with its economy and GDP per capita. Working abroad in Australia can build our résumés and allow us to seek attractive jobs back in our country Cambodia.

New Zealand

New Zealand is a prestigious country for both studying and working. The country is high in its development with GDP per capita around 41 000 US dollars in 2018. Furthermore, New Zealand’s higher education ranked 16th worldwide in 2018. These stats assure you that you are studying and planning to work in one of the most prestigious countries on earth. Besides, we can find part-time works that enable us to work 20 hours per week in New Zealand. Our student visas also allow us to work full-time in summer when there are no classes as well.

What’s more, it is not difficult at all to find part-time works in New Zealand. There are non-profit organisations who are ready to help students find their part-time works. Some companies advertise their part-time vacancies to full-time students whether local and international too. In addition, here are some jobs that you can find yourselves working in New Zealand such as calling centre worker, bartender, kitchen-hand, waiter/waitress, supermarket assistant, seasonal worker and sale assistant.

Consequently, we shouldn’t have any hassles for problems whether we cannot find part-time works in New Zealand when there are people ready to help us find work in the country. If this doesn’t address your anxieties enough, there are Cambodia’s study consultancies that can offer you advice and guide you to find works as they are partners with universities and companies in New Zealand. The United States

We don’t have a question of why you consider the United States for your studying destination. There are five American universities that rank among the top 10 best universities in the world. Many averaged American universities also rank among the top 100. When it comes to working part-time, you can work when studying in the United States. Regardless, it depends on your types of studying visas.

With F-1 and M-1 student visa, Cambodian students can work on campuses such as working at cafeterias, libraries or working for student services. Nonetheless, the US’s system is complex with its variety of student visas, so we encourage you to seek for consultancies for study abroad based in our country for their expertise for studying abroad in the US. Furthermore, there is complexity for wages because wages for international students can be varied from one state to another without the overall minimum wage for the entire United States.

Meanwhile, the jobs can be varied for the off campuses such as barista and baby sitter. No matter what, the US offers world-class education when you shouldn’t expect the pays from your part-time works to cover everything besides foods or accommodations. Please keep in mind that you go to the US for studying, and working is your side projects only.

Canada

Canada is an alternative to the US since it is at a similar distance with the US from Cambodia. Nonetheless, the country has very different cultures and sceneries from the US. Nature is much preserved in Canada. Although, quality education is not as higher than the US, yet the tuition fee is relatively lower than the United States and the United Kingdom. No matter what, Canada has one of the best-qualified education in the world with around 200 000 international students in 2018. Especially, Cambodian students can find themselves working part-time in Canada besides studying.

Nonetheless, Canada has some complexities in working for students like the US. Cambodian students can work part-time in Canada only when their visas allow them to work. Furthermore, Canada only requires international students to work when the school season starts, so it is also a no for our students who want to travel early to Canada and work for some pays there.

Because of complication in working part-time in Canada despite high quality of education, beautiful and untouched nature as well as friendly Canadian people, you should seek for consultancies for studying abroad who have in-dept knowledge for applying for student visas with work permits for you.

The United Kingdom

It is smart thinking to choose the United Kingdom as your studying destination. There are four universities based in the UK which stand among the top 10 universities globally. As a result, we shouldn’t have a hassle for why it is interesting to study in Great Britain. Besides, you can travel widely across the country with its diversity as the UK consists of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Especially, the country has a helpful system for international students who want to work and pay some bills when studying at some of the best-renowned universities in the world. Cambodian and other international students are permitted to work a minimum 20 hours per week during terms and full-time when there are school vacations. It is excellent because this system helps to compensate for the high costs of livings and studying in the United Kingdom.

Nonetheless, we are encouraged to do research about our preferred universities because some universities don’t allow their students to work part-time because they think it can affect our studying. In fact, doing research is not yet enough because it is hard to know in great details requirements from each university. Hence, it is wise to seek supports and consultancies from our local and well-known study consultancies.
